Oppo is really trying to make a run for its popularity as it competes with the mobile developing giants of today. It has been successful in creating and maintaining a name brand. Read the oppo R5 review and share your thought with us.
One of the leading forerunners of the Oppo brand is its Oppo R5 which is well-known for its sleek profile and a solid framing, making it look solid and well-built. With an octa-core processor and a 13-megapixel camera to boot, this mobile phone has indeed a lot to offer.
Oppo R5 is gorgeous. This is one of the most common adjectives tagged to the R5 line. It is clad in metal, 4.85mm super-thin, and weighs 155 grams. It’s definitely impressive but lacks the common 3.5mm audio jack that will require you to use Bluetooth headphones if you want to listen to music.

Compared to other brands, you can synonymously categorize the Oppo R5 along with iPhone 6’s slim frame; it even looks better than the latter when it comes to design. It also bags the world record for the thinnest mobile phone in the market. The Oppo R5 comes in three different versions due to the different LTE brands. One will be available in the US, another in China, and one model for the rest of the countries worldwide. The Oppo R5 Malaysia price is marked at RM 1598 (Malaysia) or around $449 based on those posted at PricePanda, a price comparison site.
Oppo R5 Design Review
Encased in metal with a hand-polished steel frame and a back made of brushed aluminum, the Oppo R5 screams nothing less but class and elegance. The premium feel that this phone offers is the same as the ones you expect from its other more expensive contemporaries. It comes in a two-tone color scheme (white and silver and white and gold at the back) and will most likely give you the vibe of the Apple phone device. It is thinner than the iPhone but does not feel slippery compared to the former. The only thing that has a slight negative impact to its thin design is that the 13-megapixel camera sticks out and makes the phone uneven when placed on a flat surface. Overall, the solid build quality of the Oppo R5 is impressive but not perfect.
Oppo is indeed trying to surpass boundaries as it ditches the 3.5mm jack and an external speaker to accommodate the thickness it was designed to have. This is the first compromise the brand had to go through to accommodate the ultra-thin design throne. Form was definitely considered over function this time around for the R5.
As for listening to music and audio, you can still do this with the propriety earbuds that came with the device. You can directly plug it into the microUSB port and it works and sounds as great as when you are using a headphone jack.
The Oppo R5 Display and Performance Review
The R5 offers a big 5.2-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and a pixel density of 423 ppi. It works great both in the outdoors and in the night. It can get really bright which is perfect for outdoor use and pretty dim when you try and read messages at your bedside.
As for the Oppo R5’s performance, the brand is keeping up fairly well with its contemporaries. It is packed with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor along with an Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB or RAM. Although the software of the R5 is still at 32-bit, its performance is still remarkable and the applications open and close smoothly even without the 64-bit processor being fully taken advantage of.
The Oppo R5 Camera and Battery Life Review
The Oppo R5 has a rear 13-megapixel camera that unfortunately protrudes at the back, but it’s the only and slightly negative feature the device has. It features an impressive Sony sensor and an LED flash with a simple and intuitive camera interface. You can locate the camera settings at the bottom left corner and a slide out panel on the right side to access the different shooting modes available. With a pretty fast shutter speed, you could enjoy taking rapid images in succession shots.
The R5 also boasts of the ULTRA HD mode that allows users to take 50M shots, something common among Oppo devices. It comes with a 2,000mAh battery that may prove to be insufficient for extensive daily use. This again is another aspect compromised to be able to keep up with Oppo R5’s impressive design.
So is the Oppo R5 worthy to be your mobile phone of choice? It is. With its sleek design and above-average functionality and superb features, you’re definitely enjoying a premium experience in mobile technology with a fraction of the cost.
